A Little about Us…
We have been married for five years and a couple for seven years total. But, we have something special beyond that—after meeting as co-workers (at a non-profit that focused on improving the environment), we were friends for several years before dating. Having those years of friendship behind us has been such a great gift! We’ve always known we wanted to be parents, however that might happen—to love and raise a child is the most important thing to us. We’re excited about adoption as well as the possibility of getting to know the birth family. We feel we’re ready to provide everything a child deserves, from a quality education to opportunities to achieve his/her dreams to a loving home environment.
Our Jobs
Shawn is a lawyer who works in downtown Chicago. But his road to becoming a lawyer wasn’t easy; in fact, he was the first person in his family to go to college! Shawn loves being a lawyer because he’s able to use his education to make sure that everybody is treated fairly and gets the rights they deserve.
Jen currently works from home as a freelance writer; her background is in environmental education and she likes to write about living “green.” Jen has a flexible schedule, so she’s happy to be able to be a stay-at-home mom! That will mean more time to nurture, have play time together and teach a little one about this new and exciting world.

We’ve lived in a spacious apartment in the West Loop neighborhood of Chicago since 2008. Shawn walks to work, and we both get to take advantage of living minutes away from many of the best places the city has to offer (museums, parks, the lakefront!). With a new park two blocks away, a neighborhood parent’s group, and a diverse and secure building, our home would be a great place for a child’s first years.
Our home is our haven—it’s a place for us to feel comfortable, be creative and enjoy ourselves. A visitor will notice lots of family photos, our big CD collection, Shawn’s great assortment of books, Jen’s prized snow globes, and artwork created by Jen’s step-dad and Shawn’s sister.
